Monday Morning Monster; the Doggerelle

The doggerelle seems to be some kind of carnivorous antelope.  It may be a thecodont or related mammal-like reptile, one that evolved on the savannah then moved uphill in response to environmental pressures.  It is now established on the steppes of certain mountainous regions.  It forms hunting packs based around an alpha male and 3 to five females and their young.
The doggerelle goes from bad to verse...

The doggerelle evolved out of a doodle.  To make it less silly, I shooped the sketch heavily before I started painting.  Why I needed to make the doggerelle less silly, I now cannot recall.
Degenerative or toy doggerelle...

I wonder what a paintup of the original sketch would have looked like.  If dogs like pugs can walk the earth today, a paintup of the original doggerelle should be perfectly credible.

Thoughts on technique -- I've been doing a lot of alla prima oil painting, getting ready for a show that coming up, and I can really see the effect of all that real-world brushwork on my digital rendering.
